This has the look and feel of Big Buck’s Brewery from Michigan. When you walk in it is big, really big, lots of log cabin style decorations including stuffed animals and most everything made out of rustic wood/branches. The place looks spectacular.
Just like Big Buck’s when you walk in they are selling their own beer products and souvenirs, and most notable, it is nearly empty. Now it was a Monday night, so maybe it is a slower night for them, but I know my local micro-brew has no slow night, when it is slow it just means you can get a table.
So we walk upstairs to the bar and try to order some beer, and unfortunately, they are out of several. Man, this is really reminding me of Big Bucks now.
After sitting there for a couple minutes, I notice some flags on the ceiling, and a little out of place is a Michigan State University flag, so I ask one of the bartenders if there is any significance.
It turns out, this was indeed a Big Buck Brewery location. The franchise started in Gaylord Michigan, expanded into a Grand Rapids MI location then this Grapevine TX location. Long story short, Big Buck’s did not handle the economy changes too well and filed bankruptcy in 2008. When they did this, they shut down the Grand Rapids and Grapevine locations.
The Grapevine location was bought by the adjacent Bass Pro Shop and now operates as its’ own independent brewpub and restaurant.
The food is spectacular, the beers that are available are great, the atmosphere is great. This place has a lot going for it if it can survive.
They sell beer by the bottle and growler.
